The dashboard was right, and the job was still wrong.

That is the limit of Run Time. Run Time is execution against the current map: measure flow, remove waste, tighten the loop. Necessary work. But it cannot make disruptive truth socially admissible. It cannot metabolize meaning.

I learned this on a night paving job. Trucks backed up, idle dollars burning in the dark. Visibility was not the fix. The waste had been created hours earlier, when uncertainty was still high and the only culturally acceptable move was to over-order trucks to protect production. In messy systems, waste is often insurance.

What changed performance was Ritual Time. Planning and review created a place where uncertainty could be spoken before the shift, and error could be studied afterward without blame. Ritual Time did what Run Time could not: it made it safe to be wrong in public.

That matters now because AI will make optimization cheap. If all you build is better Run Time, you get a faster organization that still cannot tell the truth.
