Most teams wait for trust before they tell the truth. That’s backwards

Most teams wait for trust before they tell the truth. That’s backwards.

In The Virtuous Cycle, trust is not the prerequisite. It’s the output. A young team starts with very little shared history, but if it can handle real disagreement early, each successful collision deposits more trust into the system.

The image is simple: Friday demos with real feedback, Monday planning with real dissent, and a norm that the person who was most wrong last week opens the next meeting. Not as performance. Not as culture. As operating discipline. You survive a few honest confrontations, and the team becomes capable of surviving harder ones.

That matters more now because the pace of change is rising faster than most organizations’ ability to absorb it. The teams that learn fastest will not be the ones with the most harmony. They’ll be the ones that can tell the truth early, without breaking apart.
