Every system has one sentence it cannot prove without already standing on it.
Wittgenstein called these foundations hinges. They are not conclusions. They are commitments a system lives from but cannot justify from inside itself. In The Dionysus Program, the hinge is explicit: “nothing is sacred except the commitment to metabolize error.”
That line is not a fact about the world. It is a procedural myth. It tells you how to be when new knowledge keeps melting yesterday’s roles, status, and certainty. You cannot run a Crossing on the frame that makes Crossings intelligible in the first place.
Organizations keep pretending their processes are neutral. They are not. Every review, postmortem, or planning ritual already rests on an unprovable prior commitment about what gets protected and what gets put at risk.
If you do not name the hinge beneath your methods, it will still govern you. It will just do it dishonestly, and eventually your rigor will harden into dogma.
