Don’t confuse less coordination with better organization

Don’t confuse less coordination with better organization.

The One-Man Job is a task completed from inception to delivery by one person, without negotiating, sharing context, or waiting on others. AI makes more work look like this every quarter. The gain is real: less scheduling, fewer handoff losses, less politics.

The cost is real too. Work used to force contact: shared problems, overheard conversations, the occasional lunch that turned into trust. Work was the pretext; relationship was the byproduct.

When a task no longer needs other people, that byproduct disappears. You get more output per person and less social coherence at the same time. If you don’t rebuild that human glue deliberately, you don’t have a team. You have isolated individuals sharing payroll.
