The fastest way to turn a truth ritual into a power ritual is to leave it on.
That’s the mistake in a lot of “high candor” cultures. The postmortem never really ends. The challenge session bleeds into normal meetings. Soon nobody knows whether they’re being asked to operate, confess, or defend themselves. Ritual heat spills into ordinary domination.
The better structure is Hard Limits on Liminality. Make the exception feel like an exception.
Name when ritual time starts, and what object is on trial.
Set the stop time and exit criteria before you begin.
When it closes, return to ordinary accountability immediately: decision owner, commitments, clock running.
One more boundary: don’t use this on a low-trust or exhausted team. If people are depleted, a hot ritual becomes theater or a struggle session. Feed them, cool the room, reduce pressure first.
If the rite has no hard ending, it isn’t renewal. It’s a regime.
